There’s hope in the not-yet -Stop letting your circumstances define you

Are you letting your circumstances define you?

Do you keep asking God to change those circumstances?

And it feels like He’s saying, “Not-yet”

Okay, before we start, you need to know something about me, I’m a dreamer

But I was challenged the other day

I mean, seriously challenged, about some thought patterns that had crept into my thinking

I was letting my circumstances define who I was

THERE’S HOPE IN THE NOT-YET

So, all last week at my day job

I was throwing my own pity party

Praying to God to change my circumstances

And He led me to Isaiah 42:9

“Look here, what’s done is done and gone. The now is new, and there’s hope in the not-yet. I will tell you what’s to come, even before the events are brand-new”

I re-read it – again and again

“There’s hope in the not-yet”

I’m sure God whispered, “You’re welcome” in my ear

But then I suddenly felt mad

Not at God, but at myself

I realised I was letting my circumstances define who I was

And I was mad at myself for letting it happen

So, here’s the skinny

I needed to stop beating myself up about my present circumstances

And focus on the “not-yet”

Because that was my hope

I needed to stop letting my circumstances define me

And start thinking differently if I wanted to level up

Into all God has in store for me

Because if I wanted to see a change in my circumstances

I had to let go of what happened in the past

“What’s done is done and gone” (Isaiah 42:9)

And now I needed to look forward and keep moving forward

Into the promise God gave to me

Preparation for your promise is key, my friend

If you want to see longevity in your calling

Believe me, only the Devil shows up to your pity party

Bringing his dodgy, two-bit operation bag of tricks

Where he’ll suggest that you wallow in your victim mentality for weeks on end

Until everyone avoids you

And when your dog gets up and walks away when you enter a room

There’s a problem

I know what you’re saying

“Okay, smarty pants, what’s the solution?”

Alright, I have a few practicals to get you going

Firstly, the natural realm

What are you doing every day that helps you reach the promise God gave you?

Are you searching out Webinars

Reading books

Or hanging around people who can help you get to where you need to be?

Everyone has a dream

But if you’re just talking about it and never actually taking steps to reach it,

You’re just fooling yourself

Whatever God has called you to do

Make sure you do something every day that gets you towards that goal

Secondly, the spiritual realm

What are you doing in your Christian walk to help you reach the promise God gave you?

Are you praying and praising God about what He’s going to do in you and through you?

Are you reading God’s Word?

Come on, seriously, do you want to be exactly where you are in a year from now?

I didn’t think so

No. More. Excuses!

Ask God to renew your mind

To renew your thinking

Stop letting circumstances define you

And focus on the hope of the “not-yet”

Because God IS faithful

And His promises over your life

Are YES and AMEN!
