PROMISE. PASSION. PREPARE. POWER Week 3 – PREPARE
We are powering along in the PROMISE. PASSION. PREPARE. POWER 4-week series
This week, I’ll show you 3 top tips on how to PREPARE for your promise
And why it’s super important to PREPARE well
So, you’ve got your PROMISE (Tick)
And you have a truck load of PASSION for it (Tick)
That’s great!
I know, I know
You want to get to the last part of the series – POWER
But it’s really important that you PREPARE well for the longevity of your PROMISE
1, PREPARE YOUR GIFT FOR THE PROMISE
God reminds us in 1 Timothy 4:14
‘Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you.’
It’s so easy to neglect your gift when everything seems to be going wrong
Last Christmas our son finally passed his maths exam
After 4 attempts, no less! (yay!)
Which meant that he could move up into his second year of University
Exams have always been so easy for him to pass
But as I watched him struggle, revise and sweat over this exam
For a WHOLE year
I told him that even though you know you’re on the right path
God is probably teaching you some things that you’ll need for the longevity of your promise
Tenacity, perseverance and becoming an overcomer are now in his character
Your gifts are tailored to your promise
You need to prepare them, so you can use them correctly
2, PREPARE YOURSELF FOR THE PROMISE
Believe it or not, when God gives you a promise
It’s never really about you
It’s all about helping other people
Unfortunaly, some people never fulfil the promise on their lives
Because their motives are all wrong
Don’t let that happen to you
1 Samuel 16:7 says, ‘But God told Samuel, “Looks aren’t everything. Don’t be impressed with his looks and stature. I’ve already eliminated him. Men and women look at the face; God looks into the heart.”
We can fall into the trap of comparing ourselves with other people
People who are;
Smarter
Better looking
And seem far more talented than we ever think we will become
But God didn’t choose you for your outward appearance
Heavens no!
He saw your heart
So keep those motives in check
3, PREPARE A TABLE FOR YOUR CUP TO OVERFLOW
Psalm 23:5 talks about our enemies
And if you are trying to fulfil that big promise that God gave to you
You can be sure you’ll encounter a few along the way
‘You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows.’
Preparing a table requires provisions
It’s making sure all your needs are met
God is saying that right in front of your enemies, He will bless you until your cup overflowsI’ve learnt that not everyone is happy with your calling
If you’re in a dark environment that strives for power and position
Your star won’t be allowed to shine brighter than someone else’s
Which can make you shrink back and be ill-equipped for your promise
Bishop T.D. Jakes sums up this type of behaviour
We are meant to complete each other, not compete with each other.
God has anointed your head with oil
And He will bless you until your cup overflows
Sounds good, yes?
Believe it – Live it!
