Glass Ceilings

Have you ever been in a place where there is a glass ceiling?

It’s great watching the rain splash down onto the panes of glass as you sit sipping your Latte without getting wet or feeling the warmth of the spring sunshine as it shines through the glass, slowly thawing out your body from the winter chill.

Glass ceilings give a room a sense of space. A feeling that you can reach out your hand and touch the stars.

If you stood on a chair and put your hand on the glass ceiling, you would be able to see your hand pressed up against the glass, but your vision would see way beyond your hand.

And that’s the problem.

When we have a vision of where we want to be we can have a ‘glass ceiling’ mentality. We try and reach out to grasp our vision with both hands, but we’ve settled for a life of mediocrity because we believe that’s all we deserve and so the roof comes over our thinking and before we know it we have a ‘glass ceiling’ mind set stopping us reaching our goal/vision/dream.

I’ll never forget a quote from Pastor Brian Houston of Hillsong Church.

“What do you see with your eyes closed?”

Psh you say, I ‘see’ the back of my eyelids!

Yes, very funny.

But seriously, what DO you see when you close your eyes and you let your imagination off it’s leash for a while?

Scary isn’t it?

We think we’re being way too prideful to think such wonderful things about our future, and so we scale it down a few notches,

and then we…

Fall into the trap of thinking too small, too limited, too conditional and maybe like me, way too apologetic for even daring to believe that the same God who spoke the Universe into existence actually looked at you and me and said, “I choose that one.”

It goes unnoticed at first,

but over time

the glass ceiling forms over your vision and when you’ve let your insecurities win for the hundredth time you wonder…

Did God get it right?

So you make excuses,

I haven’t enough time, money, experience, good looks or brains to pull this vision off,

Great.

Because God wants to totally blow the lid off your mind with what He has got planned for you!

We need to trust God and hold onto His very large hand and start walking towards the vision He’s placed in our hearts.

But be warned,

some parts of your journey towards your vision will get pretty lonely because

visionary’s always ‘see’ things way before everyone does.

At the opening of Disney World Florida a reporter was interviewing Mrs Disney.

“It’s a shame Walt isn’t here it see it,” he said referencing Walt Disney’s death. To which Mrs Disney replied, “Oh Walt saw it, that’s why it’s here.”

Walt Disney saw Disneyland when he closed his eyes even before it came into existence.

And God has placed something into your inner core that needs to be birthed too.

But be careful because Satan desperately wants to steal your vision.

Don’t let him!

It says in Habakkuk 2:2-3 “Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Thought it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.”

Hear that?

‘Write down your vision…for the vision is yet for an appointed time.’

There is an appointed time for your vision to come to pass.

And when it does you’ll be living a different kind of life.

So break free from your ‘glass ceiling’ thinking,

And become the person God created you to be!
