You wouldn’t believe Him anyway…
If God told you a story that He had planned since the beginning of time
You wouldn’t believe Him anyway
If He said that He was going to choose a girl to give birth to a baby
You wouldn’t believe Him anyway
Or if He pointed out a carpenter and told you that he was going to marry the girl and they would bring up the baby together
You wouldn’t believe Him anyway
And if He showed you the donkey that carried the girl safely to an Inn in Bethlehem so she could have the baby
You wouldn’t believe Him anyway
And if He happened to mention that there would be no room at the Inn and that the baby was going to be born in a dirty old stable, around the back of the Inn, surrounded by smelly animals
You wouldn’t believe Him anyway
Or if God added in the story that some shepherds on a hillside were going to see an angel in the sky and the angel would announce to them that their Saviour had been born in a stable
You’d respond with a smile…
But
You wouldn’t believe Him anyway
Maybe you’d be a little bit curious if God told you that three wise men would be following a star and bring expensive gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh to the baby because they knew He was a King
But still…
You wouldn’t believe Him anyway
You perhaps would feel a tingle of excitement if God told you that the girl’s husband was going to be told in a dream that they would have to leave Bethlehem and flee to Egypt because the ruler of the land, King Herod, would want to kill the child
Perhaps…
But you wouldn’t believe Him anyway
You could question God when He told you that He wanted you to know that story because you were in His thoughts way before you were born
That could make you think…
But
You wouldn’t believe Him anyway
If God looked you straight in the eyes and said, “I told you this story because I love you. I planned the first ever Christmas so you would see that I have loved you with an everlasting love.”
Would it change your heart?
It could…
But
You wouldn’t believe Him anyway
Maybe if God finished off the story by telling you that it was no coincidence that you found this blog post
And that this Christmas you would wonder about that baby who was born in a stable so long ago, as you swallow the last piece of mince pie, while washing it down with some egg nog
God never grows tired of telling you the Christmas story
He reminds you of it every year as you decorate your Christmas tree and hang your stocking on the fireplace
The Christmas story is re -told because it lets you know that this is how much you mean to God
But if He told you that…
You wouldn’t believe Him anyway
Merry Christmas

December 7, 2016Very well put. However, not being picky, but there may not have been “3” wise men, alluding to the 3 gifts..there may have been more or less. Check it out and let me know. I believe no number is mentioned. Well put anyway!
