So, you have a dream

Me too!

And you want to see it happen

Me too!

Well

You won’t get far carrying that bed

Come again?

I said

You won’t get far carrying that bed

I realised

That I’d been carrying my bed with me

It was the bed of

Lame Excuses

“I can’t do that because I was in the bottom classes at school”

“I have no qualifications to achieve that”

“I am not as good as other writers”

“Are you sure you’ve picked the right person, God?”

I had made a cosy little mattress which was stuffed full of excuses

For not fulfilling my dream to write a book

And I’d been carrying that cumbersome bed along the journey of my dream

For far too long

After the last balloon had popped at my pity party

My wise daughter said to me

“Mum, you are at an age where you can do anything you want to”

Really?

You mean there’s an ‘age’ where you get to choose what you want to do?

Fo’real?

I think what she was trying to say was

“Mum, you married young, had myself and my brother young and now it’s time you did something you really want to do.”

Or, words to that effect

I was reminded of the paralysed man in John chapter 5

This man was at the pool of Bethesda

Waiting for his miracle

For 38 years!

Waiting for his dream to walk again

Waiting for his dream to live his purpose

But when Jesus arrived and asked the man if he wanted to be made well

The man gave Jesus some ‘lame’ excuses

*pun intended

“Sir, I have no man to put me in the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me”

Jesus wasn’t listening

“Rise, take up your bed and walk”

And immediately, the man was made well

Took up his bed

And walked!

When you have an encounter with God

Fear of stepping into the unknown can paralyse you

But God believes you are the right person for that dream

And He doesn’t listen to your lame excuses as to why it can’t be done

He just wants you to trust Him

Because He knows

You’ve got this

So

Get up

RISE

And

Walk in the direction of your dream

I believe in you

You are total awesomeness!

But you’ve gotta ditch the excuses

Otherwise

You won’t get far carrying that bed
