There is more to come!

As we head into the future of 2018

I believe God is not done with you yet, my friend

There is more to come!

We are living in a remarkable time in history

As all the Saints in heaven cheer us on to the finishing line

We have so much to be grateful for

So much to be thankful for

Of how faithful God has been to us through 2017

But, there is more to come

We tend to get carried away as the glitter of the last firework fizzles out

And our sparklers are done and dusted

We have a sense of expectation that somehow when the clock strikes midnight

Ringing in the new year

We magically change into a better person

One we’ve always longed for

That somehow, when the calendar turns to January 1st

We won’t argue with our family anymore

That the dust where the Christmas cards sat, has been cleaned away by fairies

And the left-overs in the fridge won’t make a jot of difference to that dial

When you stand on those bathroom scales

THERE IS MORE TO COME

Of course, it would be a little naïve to think that everything changes just because

One year has passed and a new one has begun

As I said in last week’s post

God is asking us to get ready

To PREPARE for a great future that is ahead of us

He is the only One who can change us from the inside out

Not new year resolutions

As our foundational Scripture says;

‘…because we know how troubles can develop passionate patience in us, and how that patience in turn forges the tempered steel of virtue, keeping us alert for whatever God will do next…’ Romans 5:4

The word tempered means, to adjust, fine tune, strengthen and stiffen

God is asking you to prepare and adjust

He’s strengthening you for the future He has for you

As He fine tunes you into the tempered steel of virtue

Passionate patience has been developing in us along the way

From our setbacks and troubles

Sure, that jar of cranberry sauce will probably be sitting in your fridge door

Until next Christmas

And you’ll totally forget about the second Christmas pudding you brought on special

But, that’s okay

Because God isn’t looking for perfect people

He’s looking for PREPARED people

People who are prepared to let God change them for the better

So, prepare your heart and keep alert for whatever God is going to do next

Because there is more to come

So much more, my friend

And I don’t know about you, but I’m fired up in readiness

For a really, really big 2018!
