Stinks to high heaven -What aroma are you giving off?
The smell of bacon cooking
Sea kelp as you walk along the beach
Freshly brewed coffee
Old book smell
The smell of outside after it has rained
All these aromas evoke a reaction
So, when it comes to how you live your life
What aroma are you giving off?
Is it a good smell?
Or a bad smell?
Do you put on the deodorant of Scripture
To help you each day
‘Create in me a clean heart, O God’ Psalm 51:10
‘I bless God every chance I get; my lungs expand with his praise’ Psalm 34:1
When you know you are starting to give off
An unpleasant aroma?
STINKS TO HIGH HEAVEN
Stinks to high heaven
Is a phrase normally used
When something just doesn’t sit quite right
But what if
You started living your life
Stinking to high heaven?
What if
The aroma that you give off
Evokes a reaction in God
That makes Him happy?
2 Corinthians 2:15 reminds us that
‘Everywhere we go, people breathe in the exquisite fragrance. Because of Christ, we give off a sweet scent rising to God, which is recognized by those on the way to salvation – an aroma redolent with life.’
In other words
When you belong to Christ
You stink to high heaven!
Don’t you want to smell good for God
So other people want your fragrance?
I know I do
A sweet scent rising to God
Reaching the highest heavens
Because of Christ who lives in you
People want your scent to rub off onto them
When it smells like an exquisite perfume
A scent that is attractive as
They breathe in the aroma
And want more
Some people think you truly do
Stink to high heaven!
Meaning, they don’t want nothing to do
With the repugnant smell of Christ
‘But those on the way to destruction treat us more like the stench from a rotting corpse.’ (2 Corinthians 2:16)
All this “Christ” business
Just doesn’t sit quite right with them
The aroma you’re giving off
Stinks to high heaven
And they will do everything they can
To get away from the stench of Christ
But don’t let that stop you, dear friend
You keep on stinking
For Christ’s glory
Because you are
Sweet –smelling to God
Filling the air with fragrance, pleasing Him no end
So, stink it up
Everywhere you go
With Christ’s aroma!
