Patchwork People
Patchwork people are the ones who take little pieces of fabric
And stitch them together to make beautiful quilts
Each patchwork quilt has a story
I met a patchwork person while visiting my friend the other day
This patchwork lady, not only makes the gorgeous quilts, along with many other patchwork people but they give away a quilt to a foster child as a gift.
Lots and lots of them
The idea is, that each foster child is being wrapped in God’s love which is represented by the quilt
And each foster care child they meet has a story, just like the quilts
A broken home
A parent who can’t take care of them anymore
Abuse
Neglect
Terrible, tragic stories
PATCHWORK PEOPLE
As I left my friend’s house, I thought about the quilts
The foster children being wrapped in God’s love
The Scripture’s on the back of each quilt
And I thought…
We can all become patchwork people
And you don’t even need to know how to sew or use a sewing machine to become one!
Goodness me, no
You just need to love on people
Psalm 147 says, ‘God heals the heartbroken and bandages their wounds’
Patchwork people are made from the fabric of community
A community of people who just love people
And if we stop trying to create community and start to build one
We will be able to see what’s right in front of our eyes
Every day we encounter
Broken people
People who have had their hearts torn over their circumstances
When you get a community of people who are from all walks of life
But are stitched together because of their love for Christ
You get patchwork people
People who have a common cause
A blanket of God’s love
Stitched together, just loving on broken people
If you look at a patchwork quilt, each piece of fabric is different and unique
But together they make a covering
A covering that wraps God’s love around this hurting, wounded world
Psalm 34:18 says, ‘If your heart is broken, you’ll find God right there; if your kicked in the gut, he’ll help you catch your breath’
Have you ever felt like life has kicked you in the gut
And you need a moment to catch your breath?
I know I’ve had times in my life
When all I needed was a warm blanket of God’s love to wrap myself in
To feel safe and secure in His embrace
And God sends patchwork people to me
Because
Love doesn’t wait until you have it altogether
Love. Just. Does
Right there in the moment
So, here’s a crazy thought…
This week let’s become a community of Patchwork People
You don’t have to make it awkward or weird
Just a community of different people
Stitched together with a common cause
To show broken people the love of Christ
People who just wrap God’s love like a patchwork quilt around broken people
Go on, try it!
And leave a comment below
I really want to hear your stories!
