Patchwork People – Stitched together by love
Patchwork people are the ones who take little pieces of fabric and stitch them all together to make a beautiful quilt. Each patchwork quilt has its own story to tell.
I met a patchwork person while visiting my friend once. She had made gorgeous patchwork quilts, along with her friends and gave them away to foster children as a gift. The idea was that each foster child who receives a patchwork quilt, is being wrapped in God’s love which was represented in the handing over of the quilt.
She said that each foster care child they had met has a story, just like the quilts.
A broken home, a parent who is unable to care for them, abuse, neglect. Story after tragic story of children who just needed to feel loved and accepted.

PATCHWORK PEOPLE
As I left my friend’s house, I thought about the quilts. I pondered on all those foster children being wrapped in God’s love. I thought about the scripture that had been painstakingly sowed into the back of each quilt.
And I thought, that we can all become patchwork people, who are stitched together by the love of Christ.
Psalm 147 says, ‘God heals the heartbroken and bandages their wounds’
Patchwork people are made up from the fabric of a community. A community of people who just love on other people. They are made up of all different shapes, sizes, creeds and colours. They are a people who stop trying to create a community, and learn in their diversity how to build one. They see what is right in front of their eyes.
Every day we encounter broken people. People who have had their hearts torn by the circumstances in their lives. But if a community of believers, who are stitched together, can wrap the love of Christ around these poor, broken souls, then they wouldn’t feel so lonely.
People who have a common cause to wrap a blanket of God’s love around the shoulders of those who are hurting and lost. Stitched together through the love of Christ.

If you look at a patchwork quilt, each piece of fabric is different. But together they make a beautiful covering. A covering that wrap’s God’s love around those that are desperate for a touch of God.
A covering that wraps God’s love around this hurting, wounded world
Psalm 34:18 says, ‘If your heart is broken, you’ll find God right there; if your kicked in the gut, he’ll help you catch your breath’
Have you ever felt like life has kicked you in the gut and you’ve just need a moment to catch your breath? I know I have at times.
It was the warm blanket of God’s love through friendship and love that helped me to feel safe and secure in His embrace. Love doesn’t wait until people have it altogether.
Love. Just. Does
