From now on – Whose mission is it anyway?

It was from the back row of the movie theatre

Where the applause erupted

As the end credits rolled up the screen

Everyone had cried, commented and congratulated

Their way through

The Greatest Showman movie, starring Hugh Jackman

I’ve gotta say, I’m a sucker for musicals

The story was good, the songs were great

And the chorography to each musical number

Literally, Blew. My. Face. Off.

It was so good

That the dance routines would have made Brittney Spears weep

Now, before you run away and join the circus

There was one song that really caught my attention

FROM NOW ON

“From now on”

Was a song about, P.T. Barnum wondering why he was doing what he was doing

And who he was doing all this for

Here’s a little excerpt

“…For years and years, I chased the cheers

The crazy speed of always needing more

But when I stop, and see you here

I remember who all this was for…”

WHOSE MISSION IS IT ANYWAY?

Like, P. T. Barnum

We too, can get caught up in the applause

We can become blinded by the bright lights

And miss the whole point

As to Who’s mission we’re truly on

So, whose mission is it anyway?

Isaiah 53:6 reminds us that we

“…have all wandered off, like shepherdless sheep, scattered by our aimless striving and endless pursuits”

Hmmm, aimless striving and endless pursuits?

Been there. Done that. Brought the tee shirt.

Not going there again – ever!

We need to remind ourselves

That it’s God’s mission that we’re on

Not our own mission

And we need to keep our motives in check too

Because God will ask you if your dreams are

For you, or for the many?

So, after watching The Greatest Showman

I made a promise to myself

And to God

From now on…

I will focus on Whose mission it truly is

From now on…

I will not strive or compare myself with others, in the pursuit of wanting more

From now on…

I will keep reminding myself that my dreams are not for me, but for the many

From now on…

I will learn to embrace the process, even when I feel that there is little progress

From now on…

I will love more fearlessly and be brave enough to trust God completely

From now on…

I will remember Who all this is for

From now on

From now on

From now on
