I’ve started something
Have you ever started something and wished you hadn’t started something?
It all seemed so wonderful at first
And now, well…hmmm
You’re not so sure
You’ve started this, this…thing
And now it’s too late
The ride has started and the only way to get off it
Is to experience all the twists, turns and upside-down moments
Letting the G-force hit your face until it’s all over
Or until your lunch comes back up
I‘VE STARTED SOMETHING
It’s little wonder the Apostle Paul in his letter to the Philippians
Encourages them to not give up or give in
They started something and needed to trust God to finish it
‘There has never been the slightest doubt in my mind that the God who started this great work in you would keep at it and bring it to a flourishing finish…’ (Philippians 1:6 MSG)
I love that
God keeps at it because He wants to bring your ‘something’ to a flourishing finish
Spoiler alert!
God isn’t into the growing trend of “Flake it till you make it”
No matter what this world tells you
He wants you to be going strong, in full swing and flourishing over that finishing line
When you feel like giving in and giving up
When you’ve started your ‘something’
And wonder if you’re ever, ever, ever going to finish it
It’s okay
You have totally got this, my friend
And, I’ll tell you another thing while we’re here
God NEVER starts something in you and leaves you hanging
Oh no
He keeps at your ‘something’ until it’s completed
Sure, there may be a couple of loop-da-loops you didn’t see coming
Or a few twists and hair-pin turns
That made you want to cry and curl up into a ball
But God has got you and He’s promised you a flourishing finish
I know what you’re thinking
What about all those people who are stronger, faster, more courageous than me?
They started their ‘something’ and now it’s done, dusted, finished
And I’m still in the middle of my “I’ve started something” journey
And everyone has given up asking me
“When are you going to finish that ‘something’ you’ve started?”
I believe that if something is worth doing, then it’s worth doing well
Other people may be way, way ahead of you
But it’s the longevity of your ‘something’ that you need
And if that takes a little more time, then so be it
James reminds us to, ‘… let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.’ (James 1:4 NKJV)
Say it again, James, this time loud and clear
“LACKING NOTHING”
Exactamungo!
We need to let patience do its thing and trust God
That He will complete the work He started in us
So, you’ve started something, yes?
Something wonderful I hope
Something so fantastic that it gives you goose bumps just thinking about it
Because the world needs more people like you
To show them
You can start something, and no matter how long it takes you
If you trust God, you will have a flourishing finish!
