I am not a robot – Why God gave us freewill

 I AM NOT A ROBOT

If you can remember every single password for all your devices, then you are an awesome human being who has superpowers I can only  dream about. But, if you’re anything like me who forgets passwords like their your unwanted Christmas gifts, then welcome to my brain.

Recently I had forgotten a password and I needed to go through the rigmarole of resetting it. Now, before the computer allows you back into the magical kingdom of technology, it needs to know that you’re actually human and not a robot.

You need to prove to a robot that you’re not a robot which is kinda weird but an important step in the process.

WHY GOD GAVE US FREEWILL

Most times I find when people ask me about my faith they’ll question as to why I believe in a God that says He’s all good and all powerful but doesn’t stop  bad things happening in the world.  It’s a fair question.

To answer that, we need to go right back in time…

Every good story starts with a great beginning and the story of creation is not different. ‘In the beginning, God created everything: the heavens above and the earth below.’

The ‘heavens above’ had thousands of angels all living together happily under the kingship of God. But one angel changed all that because he wanted to be worshipped more than God.

‘Your heart swelled with pride because of your beauty and talents. Your hunger for fame, your thirst for glory corrupted your wisdom.’ Ezekiel 28:17 (The Voice)

Clearly, God didn’t create angels to be robots otherwise, Lucifer (Satan) wouldn’t be able to turn against God and take a third of the angels with him. It would have been easy for God just to say a word and zap Lucifer with a lightning bolt until all that was left of him was a pile of ashes, but when God gives something to you He doesn’t take it back.

I love it when my kids give me a hug when I don’t ask for one. These days the hugs are very few and far between, but on the rare occasion it happens, I hold onto those hugs like my life depended on it. As a parent, I have to give my children the choice on whether they’re wanting to give me a hug or not. I find it a much better experience when they don’t act like a robot and just do it naturally.

God gave us freewill too because He never wanted robots. He gives us a choice because that’s what real love does. Bad and terrible things happen in this world because we are in a war.

Lucifer is a thief and he will stop at nothing to make sure you blame God for every bad thing that’s ever happened to you and every bad thing in the world. John 10:10 reminds us that, A thief is only there to steal kill and destroy. I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.’ (The Message)

I am not a robot and neither are you because the God who created the heavens and the earth loved me and you enough to give us freewill. Freewill to decide whether we are going steal, kill and destroy our time in this world and agree with Lucifer or believe that God is sovereign over everything and He, ‘is able to orchestrate everything to work toward something good and beautiful when we love Him and accept His invitation to live according to his plan.’ Romans 8:28 (The voice)

God will never take back the freewill He has given you. He doesn’t want robots who are mind-numbingly controlled.

He delights in a real relationship with you and He delights in how you make your own choices. Because you are ‘fearfully and wonderfully made’ by a creator who loves you!
