Go big or go home
Has someone ever said to you
“Go big or go home”
How did it make you feel?
Inferior?
Unwanted?
Useless?
Unworthy?
Or all the above
An image comes to mind when I hear the, “Go big or go home” quote
Slick-haired bullies in polyester power suits, high-fiving each other after making another killer deal
Pul-leeeeease
Oops
Did I just say that?!
Oh, dear me, what I meant to say was
“Thanks, I can’t go big so I’ll just go home, if it’s okay with you guys”
What does the statement, “Go big or go home” mean anyway?
Go big on what exactly?
…your personality
…your hairstyle
…your fries at the drive thru?
My husband entered his first Cross Fit competition last weekend
I was soooooo proud of him!
If you don’t know what Cross Fit is – Google it
Darn tootin!
These guys are seriously fit!
Throughout the competition
I didn’t hear one person say to someone who was struggling
“Go big or go home”
Because that’s not what it’s all about
The whole culture of Cross Fit feels welcoming
They don’t see winners or losers, they just see people
1 Corinthians chapter 13 tells us that:
‘Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up…’
Love fills us up, not puts us down
Love nourishes our souls, not uses us
God is love
And
He thinks differently to this world
He seeks out the misfits, losers and broken-souled people
When your made to feel like a lowly worm, God says in Isaiah 41:10
‘I’ve picked you. I haven’t dropped you. Don’t panic. I’m with you. There’s no need to fear for I’m your God. I’ll give you strength. I’ll help you. I’ll hold you steady, keep a firm grip on you.’
Because He sees worth and value in every single person
He seeks you out because He wants a relationship
Regardless of what you can do for Him
He knows your desire is to be rescued
That deep need to be found
Isn’t that what we’re all looking for?
Someone to tell us that we are enough, just the way we are?
And once He’s found you, my friend
The “Go big” people can just pack up their egos
And “Go home”
😉
